Soft Magnetic Composites (SMC) is the internationally recognized name for pressed and heat-treated metal powder components with three-dimensional (3D) magnetic properties. Component manufacturing is based on the globally established, low cost PM-method offering 3D magnetic properties and 3D net shapes and opening up new opportunities to design compact, light and cost-efficient solutions.

Höganäs has been active in the field of SMC for more than 15 years, acting as both a supplier of soft magnetic materials and a dynamic partner in development projects. Our Somaloy^® materials are optimized SMC materials, provided as press-ready mixes to manufacture components for electromagnetic applications such as electric motors, fast switching actuators or inductor cores for power electronics. With their unique properties, the Somaloy materials are an alternative to traditional materials such as electric steel sheets and ferrites.
